The church, dating back to the Middle Ages, survives only as a ruin – the roof structure collapsed in 1972. The church tower, located west of the nave, remains standing, its sound openings in the bell chamber designed as round arches. The bell frame and bell were secured in 2011. Only the outer walls of the once elongated Baroque nave remain. A vestibule is located to the north of the nave. The baptismal font is now on loan to St. Nicholas Church in Quedlinburg.

Because of the missing roof, the residents of Wedderstedt affectionately call their church the "Summer Church."
