The Mausoleum at Halicarnassus, located in modern-day Bodrum, Turkey, was a massive 4th-century BCE tomb built for Mausolus, a Persian satrap, and his wife-sister Artemisia II. Recognized as one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World, it stood 40-45 meters tall, featuring Greek, Egyptian, and Lycian architectural styles, including a marble podium, 36 Ionic columns, and a pyramid roof crowned by a chariot.
It stood for over 1,500 years before being destroyed by earthquakes between the 11th and 15th centuries. The rubble was used by the Knights of St. John in the 15th century to build Bodrum Castle.
