After the road was built between 1976 and 1979, a simple cross was erected at the turnoff to Haus Hinterberg. It is said that there used to be a total of three wayside crosses in the Klein Gassen-Hinterberg area – two of them on a connecting path that no longer exists.
One of these old Gassner crosses is said to commemorate a person who suffered a stroke there. There is no record of this in the parish registers, but oral tradition has survived to this day. Particularly atmospheric: the impressive basilica on Sonntagberg rises in the background.
