Bar Brique does not want to be an average summer bar. The temporary construction on land rented from De Vlaamse Waterweg offers many possibilities. “We deliberately built here with more space inside, with the Belgian weather in mind,” says Joppe Ruts of Bar Woest. “There is sufficient shade and shelter, but also a lot of open space with a view of the water. That was a priority.” Bar Woest grew into a popular hotspot in Wuustwezel with live music and a festival atmosphere. Bar Brique deliberately chooses a different approach. “Here the emphasis is more on catering and experience.” “We have a fixed menu with sharing food and tapas, but also theme nights, such as a barbecue weekend and tasting evenings with caterers, from poké bowls to pizza. We organize cocktail workshops and visits to the Sterkstokers distillery. The aim here is also that we are a kind of tasting lab for Sterkstokers products. Here you can enjoy them in a summer setting.” The bar is constructed with various seating areas, each focused on the waterway as much as possible. “That view is our biggest asset,” says Ruts. “Companies can also come here for events or team building. We are also looking into whether we can continue the concept in the winter, specifically for company parties or other occasions.”
