Monte Crocetta near Menaggio (Lake Como) is home to impressive remains of the historic Cadorna Line. These defensive fortifications were built during the First World War (1915–1918) to prevent a possible invasion by Switzerland. Today, many of the trenches, emplacements, and bunkers have been lovingly restored and are well preserved.
The circular trail leads through dense forests, past restored military emplacements, observation posts, and shelters. Information panels along the way provide insight into the history and significance of the fortifications. The trenches and the view of Lake Como and the surrounding mountains are particularly impressive.
