The memorial complex at the site of the death of Yuri Alekseyevich Gagarin and test pilot Vladimir Sergeevich Seregin, who was with him in the plane, was erected 2.5 km southwest of the village of Novosyolovo, Kirzhachsky District, Vladimir Region.
It was opened on October 17, 1975.
The monument is a 16-meter stele in the shape of an airplane wing, made of red granite. Portraits of Yuri A. Gagarin and V. S. Seregin are carved on the front side of the stele. Authors: a group of sculptors and architects headed by Professor N. N. Ullas. Sculptor M. M. Bolkhovitinov and chief architect of the Vladimir Region A. P. Akimov worked with them.
Currently, work is underway on the territory of the memorial complex to create new objects that are part of it; in particular, it is planned to install twenty steles dedicated to the first cosmonauts and organize stands for holding mass events.
