    Mühlehorn Church

The municipality of Mühlehorn is a relatively young village. It only began to develop at the beginning of the 17th century. Until around 1800, it was part of the widely scattered Obstalden, where the parish church of Tagwen Kerenzen has stood since at least the first half of the 14th century. The route from Mühlehorn and the lakeside hamlets to Obstalden was arduous and long, dangerous or even impassable in winter.

In view of this arduous journey to church and school, the men of Mühlehorn, Mühletal, Tiefenwinkel, and Vortobel decided on April 18, 1759, to build a church with an accompanying rectory in Mühlehorn. They approved a construction budget of 4,000 guilders.

They appointed councilman Samuel Zopfi (1729-1806) as the client. Master carpenter Jakob Messmer from Eppishausen in Thurgau drew up the building plans. Builder Zopfi took over construction of the church on July 24, 1759. Governor Johann Peter Zopfi donated the building plot to the community. Each villager pledged six days' labor. The foundation was dug at the end of 1759, and the cornerstone was laid the following spring, on April 27, 1760. In the fall of 1760, Peter Ernst was commissioned in Lindau to cast two small bells. Master carpenter Markus Freuler of Glarus (1697-1766) crafted the pulpit and the large church doors.

June 10, 1761, was the day of the festive church consecration. The construction costs for the church exceeded the agreed sum of 4,000 guilders. The planned benefice could not be built until 1763, after the community had pledged to cover the costs. The construction costs were contributed by the following:
