It was designed by Lloyd Hesketh Bamford-Hesketh in the mid-19th century for his wife, Lady Emily (Lady Emily Esther Ann Lygon), and their children.
It served a dual purpose: as a belvedere (a structure providing a beautiful view) and a banqueting tower, making it a fine example of beauty meeting purpose.
It was intended as a centerpiece to the designed landscape of the Gwrych Castle Estate.
Perched on a cliff-edge to the north-west of Gwrych Castle, it offers breathtaking panoramic views east and west along the North Wales coast, and out to sea, where wind farms dot the northern horizon.
