A fortified settlement of the early and middle Bronze Age. The Nössingbühel is located at 66o meters above sea level. in the municipality Vahrn north of Bressanone. The early and mid-Bronze Age settlement is located on the top of the rocky slate hill and is naturally protected on three sides with perpendicular to the Eisack sloping flanks. The more accessible north side, on the other hand, is covered with a fortification wall. This was already in the first phase of colonization of the hill by 2.200 BC. Created. These are three wall sections directly adjacent to each other with a length of over one hundred meters. Originally a wooden palisade was built on it, even if there are no reliable indications for this. The original width of the plant was apparently at the base five to six meters. Today, the fortification is recognizable as disordered stone accumulation, which stands out clearly from the environment. Within the framework of archaeological investigations, rows of stones and depressions came to light. These are presumably pillars of houses, which had a stone substructure and a structure made of wood. The investigations yielded abundant finds (ceramics, objects made of silex and stone, bone / horn and metal), as well as a considerable number of faunal remains. Radiocarbon dating also confirms that the Bronze Age settlement on Nössingbühel from the beginning of the Early Bronze Age to the beginning of the Middle Bronze Age and thus for about seven centuries without interruption (22. - 16. Jh. BC). The Wallburg Nössing is located at the crossroads of the routes over the Brenner to Tyrol or southern Germany and to the east through the Pustertal into the Danube region. It documents an intensive cultural exchange and trade contacts with extra-pagan settlement groups.
