Very nice laid out and maintained gardens around the actual castle - really worth the entry fee (currently 18€). The Blarney stone is a bit of a 'must do' attraction and actually quite fun if you are not too afraid of heights - it is a bit touristic too with automatic camera, shop for the photos etc. But the tour through the ruin and the views from the top are really cool and who would reject a bit of eloquence :-)

Parking directly at the entrance is surprisingly cheap and with the gardens you should definitely plan more than the 2h of free parking in the village.

A must see on any visit to Cork, Blarney Castle with its beautiful park is a highlight at any time of year, but especially lovely if the flowers are (still) in bloom.
During the high season, in summer, it can become rather crowded in the castle tower itself, with lots of tourists lining up to kiss the Blarney Stone which is supposed to give you the "gift of the gab". Since the stairs are quite narrow, it is hard to pass the line even if you don't wish to smooch the stone.

Entry used to be free years ago; you pay now for both the park and visiting the castle, but as the grounds are beautifully preserved, it is definitely worth it!

The Blarney Stone is a block of limestone set into the battlements of Blarney Castle. According to legend, kissing the stone bestows the gift of the mouth on the kisser. The stone was embedded in a tower of the castle in 1446.

I wasn't expecting anything so great. The park is extraordinary and has many very, very old trees and enchanted mystical corners. The castle is well preserved and mega high. However, you should not have claustrophobia because of the short but extremely narrow stairs. The entrance fee of €18 is fully justified.

The famous Blarney Stone is built into the tower of the picturesque castle. It grants the gift of eloquence to anyone who kisses the stone. The person doing the kissing must bend down astride the tower, which requires a certain amount of skill and fearlessness. But of course it works (the stone).
