The view from the southern side of the Schrecksee makes the climb well worth it. However, the view is even better from the northern side, so it's well worth walking the short way around the lake and climbing a little higher for a commanding view of this Alpine lake from above.

Note that the route to the Schrecksee from Hinterstein is not an easy one.
