The building's predecessor was a simple, small bathhouse with six bathing rooms dating back to 1824, which utilized various iron, salt, and sulfur-rich springs discovered as early as the 18th century.

The present large, late-classical bathhouse dates from 1875/1876. The elongated structure was designed by the Dresden architect Ernst Giese and built for 146,000 marks. The garden façade of the two-story rectangular building features a two-flight open staircase, a colonnade on the ground floor, Italian-style loggias on the upper floor, and a dome. Behind it stretches a spacious park with historic trees and accessible cisterns.

The building is named after the Saxon King Albert, who stayed there for a cure in 1878 and granted permission to give the bath his name.

Medicinal baths and packs, as well as Russian and Irish-Roman steam baths, were offered.

Renovations and expansions were undertaken around 1900. During the 1918 revolution, the bathing facility was renamed the "Stadtbad" (City Bath). This term, which is often used today to refer to an indoor or outdoor pool, seems misleading. The city of Löbau opened the Herrmannbad, located approximately 300 meters to the southeast, as an outdoor pool in July 1906.

During the GDR era, the facility was expanded and modernized in 1975 and used for physiotherapy until 1992. Two years after the fall of the Berlin Wall, the pool was closed.
