The Zwingenburg is located above Prissian on a rocky hill at around 800 m above sea level.
The castle was built at the beginning of the 13th century and, as the property of the Counts of Tyrol, was given as a fief to various families over several centuries, but fell into disrepair from 1700 onwards. The complex was particularly important in securing the Etschtal valley on the Gampenweg. The Zwingenburg was restored around 1900 and is still privately owned today. The facility is not open to the public.
