The small, formerly Romanesque church with the rare patron saint is located on a basalt hill with a unique landscape above Lana. The hill of St. Hippolytus is not only a popular excursion destination and easy hiking trail, but has also been considered a mystical place of worship since time immemorial, where traces of settlement dating back thousands of years can be found. First mentioned in documents in the 12th century AD, finds such as Neolithic arrowheads, blades and scrapers bear witness to the early settlement of the place, which dates back over 4,000 years. In addition, Neolithic cup stones were found. The cup stones and traces of Neolithic fire sites also prove that the place served as a pagan sacrificial site long before Christianity.Tip
The exposed location above Lana offers a fantastic panoramic view and makes St. Hippolyt a popular excursion destination: from here you can see 20 villages and around 40 castles, fortresses and ruins. The small church can be reached from Völlan on a comfortable hiking trail. Beautiful hiking trails lead from Naraun, but also from Niederlana near Brandisburg via Ackpfeif or from Leonburg to St. Hippolyt.
