The Vacchelli canal is an Essential Hydraulic Work of Lombardy, also known as the "Marzano" canal, it is an important 35 km hydraulic work in Lombardy, fundamental for irrigation in the province of Cremona. Built between 1887 and 1892, it takes its name from the senator Pietro Vacchelli who strongly wanted it.

The canal branches off from the Adda at Merlino (Lodi) and crosses the Cremasca plain, passes through Spino d'Adda, Pandino, and Crema where it crosses the Serio. It ends at the Tombe Morte (a beautiful destination to visit!), a key hydraulic node where its waters join the Naviglio di Cremona and the Naviglio Grande Pallavicino.

Thanks to careful management that limits sewage discharges, the Vacchelli boasts good water quality, rich in prized fish fauna such as marble trout and grayling. Its banks are also a destination for excursions and bicycle trips, along cycle paths created from the towpaths.
