The Edmund Pettus Bridge in Selma, Alabama, was built in 1940 and is a symbol of the American civil rights struggle. On March 7, 1965, police attacked peaceful protesters here—the day became known as "Bloody Sunday." These events inspired the award-winning film Selma (2014). Documentaries such as Eyes on the Prize and series such as the March Trilogy also commemorate the bridge, which remains a monument to equality and resistance.
