One of the most beautiful mills in the entire Swabian-Franconian Forest with a large mill wheel, a creative shop "around the forest" and a great mill room, which can also be visited on special days such as "Mill Day".

Somewhat hidden in the romantic blade of the Glattenzainbach, which includes the Geistlochbächlein and the Kirnbach in its course, lies the Glattenzainbachmühle. The mill documented in 1538 was with great certainty one of the first dwellings in the town of "Kirnberg", because the "kirn" comes from the Germanic "quirn" = to grind and this "kirn" gave the place and the stream flowing through it its name.
Whoever approaches the idyllic building of the mill from the street side does not suspect what an impressive treasure of historical, almost complete mill equipment it reveals. On the back is the 7.70 m large mill wheel, which was newly built in 2014. The mill was in commercial use until 1965. Since 2012, the water mill from 1756 with its old technical equipment, 2 stone mills from around 1900 and 2 roller mills from around 1950 has been open to visitors again. Today, the old cog wheels and the transmission are driven by an electric motor for demonstrations.
In addition, the Glattenzainbachmühle is home to "The Nature Workshop", where creative and handicraft items for the home and garden are offered. The "Nature Workshop" is open Tuesday 9 am - 12 pm and 2 pm - 6 pm and Saturday 9 am - 2 pm.
A tour of the mill can be arranged with the owners.
