Kastelburg Castle Ruins

Very nice view of Waldkirch and the surrounding area. The history of the castle is very interesting. At the entrance there is an information board with an overview of its history.

The Kastelburg is the landmark of the city of Waldkirch. The lords of Schwarzenberg built the Kastelburg around 1280. The Ritterweg leads to the ruins with man-sized knight statues along the way. In 1634, the castle was destroyed by the Austrians and not rebuilt. A model of the castle before its destruction can be visited in the Elztalmuseum.

The Kastelburg is the ruin of a hill castle at 368.3 m above sea level. NHN above Waldkirch in the Baden-Württemberg district of Emmendingen. It stands on a hill 100 meters above the center of Waldkirch.
