This pedestrian tunnel’s murals really captures North Carolina’s revolutionary spirit, especially with the “First in Freedom” May 20th reference, linking to the Mecklenburg Declaration of Independence in 1775. The Hornets’ Nest of Rebellion phrase calls back to how Charlotte was a stronghold of resistance during the Revolution, earning the nickname from British General Cornwallis.
