At the transition from the Utrechtse Heuvelrug to the Gelderse Vallei lies the Den Treek-Henschoten estate. This vast area with forests, nature, agriculture and heathland covers almost 2200 hectares and borders five municipalities: Amersfoort, Leusden, Woudenberg, Utrechtse Heuvelrug and Zeist. The Den Treek-Henschoten N.V. estate is the largest family estate in the Netherlands. The shareholders of Den Treek-Henschoten are all descendants of the founder of the estate, Willem Hendrik de Beaufort. In 1807 he bought the Den Treek country estate with surrounding forests and farmlands. Here he founded the estate as a forestry company. The country estate was his home.
