What a spectacular structure we see today, it has survived the passage of time and the attacks of its inhabitants, not without a few historical vicissitudes.
Most likely of Muslim origin, its history begins in the 13th century, until the withdrawal of the French in 1812 left the fortress almost destroyed.
Due to numerous reconstructions, it can be visited today, although, understandably, only a small part of what it was in its day of greatest splendor remains.
