"The history of Raesfeld Castle dates back to the beginning of the 12th century, when it was owned by the lords of Raesfeld and became the property of Velen at the end of the 16th century.
In 1643-1658, the Imperial Count Alexander II of Velen, the "Westphalian Wallenstein", had the castle rebuilt into a renaissance-style castle. In the first half of the 18th century, the family died from Velen to Raesfeld; The castle was inhabited only irregularly and gradually fell into decay.
At the beginning of the 19th century parts of the plant were demolished or used as an agricultural estate until the 20th century. Of the former four wings of the castle are now only the west wing with the distinctive stepped tower and the north adjacent old building with a rebuilt round tower.
After the Second World War, the craft chambers of the state of North Rhine-Westphalia restored the remains as new owners. Today, the castle is the seat of the advanced training and further education institution of the Chambers of Crafts and is used for cultural events and as a restaurant.
