The area around Behringersdorf and Schwaig was already inhabited in prehistoric times, as grave finds in the Sebalder forest and evidence of a ring wall in the forest Lorenzer Schneidersbach prove.
When sand mining in Sebalder Reichswald on the northeastern outskirts of Behringersdorf 1966 traces of a Bronze Age cemetery were uncovered.
The 12 archaeologically examined graves date from the late Bronze Age. Excavations brought in addition to bronze swords and lance tips, as parts of the male armament equipment, also rich women's jewelery made of amber and bronze to light.
