The Battle of Pinkie Cleugh (1547)

This historic site near Musselburgh marks the battlefield of Pinkie Cleugh, the largest conflict of the "Rough Wooing" – a series of wars between Scotland and England. Fought on September 10, 1547, it saw the English army, using early gunpowder weapons and naval support, decisively defeat the Scots. The battle is notable as the first modern battle on British soil and a pivotal moment in Anglo-Scottish history.
