The Oostendorper water mill was built in 1548. It is a double water wheel mill; on the right bank there is a corn mill with two wheels and on the left bank an oil mill with one wheel. It is precisely this combination that makes the mill so special.

In 1946 the oil mill was completely washed away by high water and then restored in 1950. Since 1946 the mill has been owned by the municipality of Haaksbergen. After a thorough restoration in 1987-1988 the mill was restored to its original state and opened to the public in May 1988 by Mr Winsemius, former Minister of Housing.
