Like this one, there are many well-designed stations along the Bolgenach that provide information about the river and the landscape. 👍

The Bolgenach is, for much of its length, an untamed, wild mountain river. It rises below the Riedbergerhorn (see Tour 10), passes through Balderschwang, and flows into the Weißach south of Sulzberg. In just 26 kilometers, it overcomes an elevation gain of 600 meters – and carries a correspondingly high level of energy.

Due to its high flow velocity, it also carries large boulders in its riverbed. These are constantly shifted, especially during heavy rainfall or snowmelt. The numerous gravel coves along the trail therefore look different after each flood. In these dynamic habitats, nothing remains the same for long.

A rare bird, the common sandpiper, breeds on some of the more inaccessible gravel islands. Its population is threatened everywhere by river dams, but it still has a few refuges in the nature park.
