The Herrnhaag is a small settlement in the district of the district of Lorbach Büdingen. It was founded in 1738 by the Count of Zinzendorf. Benches to rest are available!

      1738 – 1750

The Moravian Church in Herrnhaag only existed for twelve years. During these years it became the center of the worldwide missionary work of the Moravian Church. The place had almost 1000 inhabitants, 600 missionaries alone went out from here to proclaim the good news of the love of God among slaves and Indians, among "Hottentots and Eskimos" in different parts of the world and to illustrate it in small model communities. At the same time, new Brethren settlements emerged in Europe.

The booklet of slogans from 1739 already names 37 different places and regions in four continents where Moravian brothers are in the service of the gospel. In the farewell speech that Zinzendorf held in the Herrnhaager Saal of the congregation in the process of departure, it says: “No one dreamed that the whole work here at the Hague church would become a house of God for the whole world. But the Savior wanted it that way. We sang to the Savior here in 25 languages at the same time, more than once...”

After the death of Prince Ernst Casimir von Ysenburg-Büdingen, under his son and the government councilor Brauer, a rather absolutist attitude gained weight in the Büdingen government, which was critical of the economic success and religious attractiveness of the people of Herrnhaag. Not only were they asked to pay homage to the community in Herrnhaag, they were also asked to turn their backs on Zinzendorf. Both were rejected by the brothers at their community meeting in 1750. As a result, you were supposed to leave the settlement within three years – but much earlier, before the deadline, only a few people lived on the Herrnhaag.
