The Kurpfalzbrücke is one of the Neckar bridges in Mannheim. It connects the districts Neckarstadt-West and Neckarstadt-Ost with the city center and leads from the old measuring station over the Neckar to the Kurpfalz gondola. There the road runs into the Luisenring or the Friedrichsring. Straight ahead is the Breite Straße with the pedestrian zone. The next bridge downstream is the Jungbuschbrücke, upstream of the Neckarsteg.
The Palatinate Bridge is not the first bridge at this point. There were three precursor bridge structures. First came the so-called ship bridge (1688), then stood at this point the Chain Bridge (1842-1845) which was later replaced by the Friedrichsbrücke (1891) with the establishment of an electric tram. During the 2nd World War the Friedrichsbrücke received on 23.09.43 + 09.04.44 enemy bombing hits. The Wehrmacht blew up to protect the entire bridge on 25.03.1945. In 1946, a makeshift bar was opened, which should have existed until the end of the new four-lane Kurpfalzbrücke (1950). 🚴♂️• Name: Palatinate Bridge
