The Medveđak stretches for a forest-rich eight kilometers as the northwestern spur of the Plješivica. It is crowned by three peaks. The legendary area was formerly known as "Vražji vrtal", the Devil's Garden. If you follow the paths over the Medveđak ridge today, you will wander through unique beech forests that are largely left to themselves. Rare species live in the primeval forests, including wolves, lynx, and brown bears. The name Medveđak is derived from the Croatian word for bear.

Hiking

A wonderful spot on earth away from the hustle and bustle of Plitvice Lakes. Perfectly signposted, without any litter, pure nature and tranquility. I recommend long trousers, as the path is bordered by partly tall nettles.
