Old Town Hall (1719/22) – Heddesheim 🚴‍♂️

The first settlements in the Heddesheim area date back to 100 AD, when the neighboring town of Ladenburg was founded by the Romans. The first documented mention of the town dates back to 917 under the name "Hetenesheim." Agriculture was the main source of income for the Heddesheim population for a long time. Tobacco cultivation was an important branch of this. In the mid-20th century, Heddesheim was the largest tobacco-growing community in Germany. Today, however, tobacco cultivation is of secondary importance.

The old town hall was built between 1719 and 1722 as a two-story building with a mansard roof and a hexagonal tower with a turret and lantern. The lower, open part of the town hall serves as the local tobacco weighing hall. The administration is located on the upper floor.

Opposite the town hall stands the Germania monument, honoring those who died in the Franco-Prussian War of 1870-1871. 🚴‍♂️
