First settlements in the Heddesheimer district can be in the period 100 AD. prove, as the neighboring town of Ladenburg was founded by the Romans. The first documentary mention can be found in 917 under the name "Hetenesheim". Agriculture was for a long time the main source of income of the Heddesheimer population. An important branch was the tobacco cultivation. In the middle of the 20th century, Heddesheim was the largest tobacco-growing community in Germany. Today, however, tobacco cultivation has only a secondary importance. The old town hall was built between 1719 and 1722 as a two-storey building with a mansard roof as well as a hexagonal tower with a welscher dome and lantern. The lower, open part of the town hall serves as a local tobacco weighing hall. The administration is located on the upper floor.
Opposite the town hall stands with the Germania a monument in honor of the fallen in the German-French War 1870-1871. 🚴♂️
