The memorial was erected in 2018. After the end of World War II, a monument commemorating the Red Army stood on this site. This was removed in the 1990s and initially replaced by an obelisk, which was controversial. Today, a monument of an eagle stands on this site. This demonstrates how commemoration culture has changed over the years.
