The floating bridge Dahlhausen is a pedestrian and road bridge over the Ruhr at the city boundary between Bochum and Hattingen. Its northeastern half lies in the Bochum district Dahlhausen, her southwestern half in the Hattinger district Dumberg. The road leading across the bridge connects Bochum via Hattinger Stadtgebiet with Essen's Burgaltendorf district and, via a branch, with the Hattinger villages of Dumberg and Niederwenigern. A first pontoon bridge at this location was opened in the spring of 1899. Previously, a ferry took over the transport of wagons and persons. The bridge was heavily damaged in the Second World War on 18 May 1943 (bombing of Möhnetalsperre) and only temporarily rebuilt. In 1959 they were finally replaced by the current bridge about 50 meters downriver.

Not to be confused by the blockage signs, for pedestrians and cyclists the bridge is open.

If you want to continue on the Springorum route (bike path) from Bochum to Ruhrtalradweg direction Essen or to Hattingen you have to drive over this bridge.
The bridge is part of the route of industrial heritage since 2014, the bridge is a listed building.
The bridge is currently closed to all motorized traffic, as many drivers did not follow the traffic rules.

Great place for a break. The Ruhr is at the place beautiful wide and exciting. Shortly behind the bridge is also a barrage. Definitive recommendation

Immediately at the pontoon bridge, the Gasthaus Zum Ponton invites you to take a break. Delicious salads, cold drinks and a wonderful panorama let the cyclist linger.

Not far from the bridge is a cozy beer garden, from which you have a great view of the bridge and the Ruhr.

The floating bridge is one of two bridges in Dahlhausen. It lies with respect to the Ruhr course above the second bridge at the railway museum.
From here it goes fantastically beautiful on the Ruhr on to Essen or Hattingen.
The highlight for a break in my opinion is a bit up the river: the towpath oasis.

Great place on the Ruhr. Directly behind the bridge there is also a weir with a small water staircase.

The floating bridge is one of two bridges in Bochum-Dahlhausen. The second is the one at the Railway Museum, about 3 km downstream.
The bridge is also interesting, of course, because there are several ways to continue cycling from here:
Upstream to Hattingen, downstream to Essen, uphill to Essen-Burgaltendorf or to Bochum-Linden or the Springorum cycle path towards Weitmar.
Interesting construction, reopened for traffic with traffic lights. Sometimes you have to let the S-Bahn through.

Since 2013 part of the Route Industriekultur and since 2014 listed. One of many industrial monuments that make cycling in the pott attractive.

It was not clear to me why I should drive on the road (in the direction of Bochum Dahlhausen) on the road, while oncoming bicycles felt 2.50 m bike path had available without having to share it with cars.

After the renewal of the traffic "guidance" at the Dahlhausener floating bridge in the spring of 2019, the ghosts decide on the implemented measures. The measures and the speed cameras are definitely worth a look, even for the value of their leadership, blocking or maybe their confusion, to evaluate yourself.

You should have seen it. Unfortunately I didn't have my camera on hand quickly enough. Despite being green for pedestrians and cyclists, a motorist jostling over the bridge over the bridge shown today. The fact that there was not yet another accident is probably due to the small and careful people who stayed there despite the Corona despite the wonderful weather.

Probably the craziest bridge over the Ruhr at all. With speed cameras and traffic lights and people in yellow safety vests. Totally absurd. Was probably worth a review at Extra 3.
