The sandstones needed for the construction of the Elisabeth Church in Marburg come from the old quarry near Wehrda. In addition, some parts of the Reichstag building in Berlin were built with the stones from here. The Lahn runs below the quarry.

Hiking

Today (16.07.24) a fire pit could be seen in the old quarry. Someone had placed old dead trees all around it and a makeshift axe was lying on two white stools. Hopefully the stones will be enough to mark off the fire pit and protect the forest from the flames when it's dry!
