On June 26, 1697, Johann Wilhelm Langenmantel von Westheim, custodian of the Catholic portion of the St. James's benefice, undertook to build a chapel in honor of St. James the Apostle and St. Sebastian and St. Leonard in Hinterschellenbach.
In 1876, the chapel was renovated, and a new tower was added. The chapel foundation is responsible for the construction.
Mass is celebrated weekly in this chapel, and on the Sunday after St. James's Day, the patron saint's day is celebrated with a sermon and service.
For the 300th anniversary celebration in 1997, the chapel was completely restored again.
