Perhaps around 1100, a Benedictine abbey was founded on the site of Godelieve's martyrdom. According to legend, the abbey was founded by Edith, the daughter of Bertolf's second marriage. She was born blind, but was able to see when she washed her eyes with water from the well into which Godelieve was immersed.

The picturesque Ten Putte Abbey is visited by many pilgrims and tourists. The eye-catcher is the well with the miraculous water (1634), which is located in a beautiful dome chapel. You can also visit the church, the devotional chapel, the crow chapel (on the motte), the place with the statue of grace and the prison. Don't forget to go and see the 'shirt without a seam', which according to legend was made by Godelieve. St. Godelieve Museum. Godelieve, born about 1050, was married off to Bertolf, son of the lord of the manor of Gistel. In July 1070, Bertolf had Godelieve murdered by two servants. She was strangled and submerged in a pool of water. During her short life, Godelieve was a benefactor to the poor. Around 1100 an abbey was founded on the site of Godelieve's martyrdom.
