A very special attraction awaits visitors in Wittmund's pedestrian zone: the "Hands of Fame" promenade. Inspired by the famous Hollywood "Walk of Fame," well-known personalities from politics, music, sports, and entertainment have left their personal handprints and signatures on a clay plaque. Along with Johannes Heesters, Uwe Seeler, Jörg Pilawa, Andrea Berg, and Heidi Kabel, Otto Waalkes, a prominent East Frisian, has also helped shape the city's image. In 2010, the "Bundespräsidentenplatz" (Federal President's Square), the only one of its kind in Germany, was inaugurated. Here, the handprints of the German Federal Presidents are immortalized in the ground. A small permanent exhibition with numerous pictures and exhibits has now been set up in the pedestrian zone. Here, interested parties can learn more about Wittmund's famous hands. The "Hands of Fame" association of the same name is diligently working to ensure that more and more handprints adorn the pedestrian zone. Comedians Bastian Bielendorfer and Thorsten Sträter were enlisted for this unique project, and the handprints of show legend Roland Kaiser will soon also have a place in Wittmund. To ensure visitors don't have to constantly look at the ground to view the handprints, "Hands of Fame" has come up with something special. The clay plates are now presented on specially designed steles. Anyone interested in learning more about a famous person can simply scan the QR code on the stele.
