The Church of Archangel Michael is connected with the history of one of the most famous families of the Kirzhach land - the Prokudins-Gorskys. Funikova Gora was their family estate and for several centuries was part of the parish of the Arkhangelsk Pogost. The graves of his ancestors are still preserved in the cemetery of the Arkhangelsk Pogost. It is believed that the first Prokudin, who added the prefix "Gorsky" to his surname (after the name of the estate), was Mikhail Ivanovich Prokudin - a writer and diplomat who went to negotiations in Turkey in 1760. Another prominent representative of the family, Mikhail Ivanovich's nephew Alexei Neofitovich Prokudin, was a participant in the Battle of Austerlitz, who miraculously survived this battle. He saw his salvation as a special mercy from God and, upon returning to his homeland, became a generous benefactor, helped Orthodox churches a lot, and was closely acquainted with St. Seraphim of Sarov, whom he often visited in the Sarov desert. However, perhaps the most famous of the Prokudins was Sergei Mikhailovich Prokudin-Gorsky, the inventor of a unique method of color photo printing and the personal photographer of the royal family. Fulfilling the emperor's orders, Sergei Mikhailovich traveled almost the entire country and left behind a unique collection of color photographs of Russia at the beginning of the 20th century.
