This monument on Mullaghmore Headland commemorates the village of Mullachgearr, which was cleared in the 19th century for the construction of Classiebawn Castle. It specifically honours its last resident, Freddy McHugh, who died here in poverty in the 1960s.
The design by sculptor Brendan McGloin consists of a 1.80-meter wide capstone with an engraved sundial and the names of the evicted families. An impressive historical resting point along the Wild Atlantic Way with a wide view of the ocean and the table mountain Benbulben.
