The history of the Nativity of the Virgin Mary Church in the village of Gora is quite unusual. It began in the industrial village of Orekhovo (now Orekhovo-Zuyevo). In 1862, a majestic stone church was built there. With the advent of the new church, the need for a wooden church disappeared. Then the residents of several nearby villages asked the Orekhovites to allow them to dismantle the wooden "kletsk" church, which could be transported log by log to the village of Gora. A little more than ten years had passed after the church was moved (1876), when a fire broke out in it. The building burned down, but all the church utensils were saved. The construction of the new stone church was financed by Alexey Vasilyevich Smirnov, the owner of the Likinskaya manufactory. He allocated a very substantial sum from his personal funds - 150 thousand rubles, and then was elected church warden for the rest of his life. The main sponsor was helped to build the temple by local merchants: the Antonov brothers, the Gavrilovs and the Yashins. The surviving stone tablet from the foundation stone indicates the date of construction - July 20, 1877. The completion is dated 1886. In 1886, the main altar of the new temple was consecrated, in the next year - its side-chapels: St. Nicholas the Wonderworker and St. Nikita the Martyr. The temple turned out to be very beautiful, especially the four-tiered bell tower 70 meters high looked. A brick four-column building in the pseudo-Russian style with a decorative five-domed over the central part and a tented bell tower, close to standard designs. Upon completion of the work, Bishop Feognost of Vladimir and Suzdal came to consecrate the main altar in honor of the Nativity of the Most Holy Theotokos. In 1895, the temple was surrounded by a stone fence decorated with forged bars. In 1896, a parish school opened in the village.
