The Calvary of St. Ruprecht an der Raab stretches across the hills north of the market town. Along wayside shrines with Stations of the Cross, created by the Seckau goldsmith Brother Bernward Schmid in 1972, one reaches the Calvary Church in Breitegg.
The Stations of the Cross from St. Ruprecht to Breitegg were in critical structural condition before 1972.
Plaster was crumbling, roofs were leaking and needed replacing. Crosses were leaning and had to be straightened.
The Stations of the Cross were built in 1844 and were originally decorated with frescoes. In 1972, at the request of Pastor Egger, 15 enamel panels depicting the Passion of Jesus were installed in place of the paintings.
A huge thank you goes to the people who continue to care for the crosses.
