Best Hikes to Altarklippen (HWN 171)
Tips
  • Currently not accessible. Full of fallen trees, etc.

  • Slightly misaligned stamp point, just follow the Sommerbergstraße downhill, then "almost directly under" the old place is the new one.

  • Good view of the Granetalsperre and the Harz foothills. The Steinberg and the Rammelsberg can still be seen to the right of the Granetalsperre.
updated 7/3/22. The HWN stamping point has been relocated by 150 m. The view is much better at this point. A view of Wolfshagen is now possible.

  • As you can see, the altar cliffs can also have a dark charm. We saw a rainbow for that. But the view in beautiful weather is actually incredible

  • The Altarklippe is one of the most beautiful stamping points of the Harz hiking nobility. The view down to the Granetalsperre is magnificent.
We've been there countless times, but it's always fascinating.
The Altarklippe (HWN 171) can be easily reached on foot or by bike in combination with the HWN 106 (Pavilion Schöne Aussicht).

  • If you don't follow the signs you will come along the old cliff path.
    Is currently troubled.
    But it's worth it

  • Unfortunately I was a bit unlucky with the weather. Well it could have been worse;) After all, you could still see a little bit through the fog and thus imagine what it would have been like in a beautiful sunrise or sunset mood ...
