In 1996, at the initiative of Alfons Vitkauskas, a monument to the teachers of the Žiūronys village school – Kazimieras Petraškas and Vincas Matulevičius – was unveiled at the school building in the village of Žiūronys, using private funds. The author of the monument is sculptor Antanas Ambrulevičius. Currently, at the initiative of the elder, the monument is “placed” near the primary education department of the Balbieriškis primary school, although the residents of Žiūronys categorically disagreed with this and the relocation of the monument stirred up a lot of passion. People had collected 85 signatures and demanded the return of the sculpture of the mayor of Prienai district, describing the relocation of the sculpture as "stolen" history. 7260 euros were allocated for the relocation and reconstruction of the sculpture. The first intention of the sculpture was to erect it in memory of Kazimieras Petraškas, a teacher who started working at the Žiūroniai school in 1947 and was shot in Belarus in 1952. His bust was cast based on the artist's painting. Later, the villagers consulted and dedicated the monument to all the teachers of this region.
