Elena Walch, originally an architect, joined the Walch winemaking family in Tramin and dedicated herself to viticulture. With her commitment and self-confidence, she consistently implemented her vision of sustainability in the winery and developed her terroir wines. Although she came from a non-wine-related background, she quickly became a pioneer of a new wine philosophy that was still unusual at the time. Her guiding principle was an uncompromising focus on quality.

The terroir wines from the single vineyards of Castel Ringberg in Kaltern and Kastelaz in Tramin are internationally highly regarded and have received numerous awards. Both vineyards have been included in the exclusive VIGNA list, which guarantees their origin from single vineyards. Elena Walch placed particular emphasis on sustainable vineyard management, which is becoming increasingly recognized in the industry.
