We used to meet up on our mopeds and practice off-roading in the old sandstone quarries that produced the building materials for Halberstadt's houses and churches. Of course, we had to be careful of the police and incurred a few ten-euro fines.
Since hardly anyone gets a moped license these days, cyclists have taken over the area.
