Goethe and the GerbermühleJohann Wolfgang von Goethe visited the Gerbermühle for the first time in 1814 as well as in the same and the following year. During this time he met Marianne von Willemer.
Between Goethe, then already 65 years old, and the approximately 35 years younger Marianne developed a close friendship. Marianne also became the model of Suleika in the "West-Eastern Divan" published by Goethe in 1819 - and co-author of the poetry collection.
In the Gerbermühle, Goethe spent a large part of his last summer in Frankfurt, where he also celebrated his 66th birthday on August 28, 1815. Shortly thereafter, he wrote his famous poem "Ginkgo Biloba" and sent it to Marianne von Willemer with two enclosed ginkgo leaves.

The Gerbermühle is probably since 1311 and has an exciting history, which can be read on Wikipedia. Between 2005 and 2007, the house was extensively renovated. Since then it is practically divided into two parts: There is, as always, the large beer garden, and now also a hotel with an upscale restaurant (inside and with a small terrace outside). Here you can dine excellent, the prices are appropriate, but adequate. Of course, Goethe's favorite dish is also here: Tafelspitz with green sauce and potatoes. Guests in sportswear are welcome in the beer garden.
