The fort was built in the years 1897-1900 on the site of an earlier fortification from twenty years earlier. Founded on a pentagonal plan with a pincer-shaped neck side, it was the last such large armored fort in the Przemyśl Fortress. In terms of the power of the weapons hidden under the armor, it was equaled only by forts IX "Brunner" and XIII "San Rideau".
