In 1743 a cattle epidemic raged in Weppersdorf and the surrounding area to such an extent that it was viewed as a punishment from God. With prayers and bosom and invocation of Saint Anne and Saint Sebastian to intercede with God for his grace, this plague disappeared. As a thank you, the citizens of Weppersdorf took the vow to go on a pilgrimage to the St. Anna Chapel in Adelsdorf every year on the feast day of St. Anne.
