Foret Classé de Kassa - Teak forest, Restaurant, Fire Station
At this corner begins a tract of Teak monoculture that has replaced the totally logged-out Kassa Gazzeted Forest preserve, streching from the old A3 road to the bank of the N'zi river, where Domaine Bini have built their Hippo observation day camp. A trail leads from here parallel to the river to the Domaine Bini camp. Normally access to their camp, for which they may or may not have purchased a lease from the Forest department, costs 20'000 FCFA inclusive lunch, and requires prior online reservation. But the Kassa Forest and the N'zi river a mile east of here are public land, so if you happen to bike here and stay outside of their camp there should be no issues. If you do end up wanting to use their camp and the generous food offered, they might still allow you to pay on site. Otherwise, this nice local restaurant just across from the fire station offers lunch for just 1000 FCFA.
