The Austberg Tower can be seen from quite a distance and has an interesting history, but above all it offers a great view. The 12.5 meter high former signal tower is made of shell limestone quarry stones and gypsum mortar, has a diameter of around 4.4 meters and a wall thickness of 1.2 meters. It was built in the middle of the 13th century and was once part of a defense system of the local nobility. The Counts of Regenstein are said to have had the tower built as a signaling system, in which function it probably served for many decades or even centuries. The corresponding signal fire made it possible to protect a huge area in the Harz from intruders of all kinds.

The tower has an observation deck.
From here, you can enjoy beautiful views of Benzingerode, the Regenstein, Heimburg, and the Brocken.
