The Huttal Ditch is approximately 1200 meters long and part of the Huttal Weighbridge water system. It is the only watercourse in the Upper Harz Mountains without a gradient. This allowed water to be transported in both directions.
The Huttal Ditch, along with the Huttal Watercourse and the Huttal Weighbridge, was constructed in the 1760s. It represents a technical masterpiece and a daring experiment, as no comparable structure existed at the time. The courage and risk taken by the Upper Harz miners were richly rewarded by the flawless functioning of the Huttal Ditch and its associated structures.
